In The Spirit of Music Videos: Rock ân Roll Edition

In the quest for the perfect music video, thereâs a balance. The song should be unforgettable and a joy for the viewer. The visuals should be entertaining and notable despite the song. The eyes must be satisfied by what they see and the ears by what they hear. Either aspect shouldnât overpower the other.
A Music Video needs a catchy tune as well as a finely crafted video. Both strong on their own merit but when paired, a perfect union. This weekâs video, Balls by King Bee has a rock ân roll song with rock ân roll visuals. Inspired by David Fincherâs music video for Judith by A Perfect Circle, Iâd say they succeeded on harnessing the style of Fincher but adjusted it for their own gritty song. Nice job, fellas. For this, we award you with a feature on our âIn the Spiritâ Music Video blog series.

About the Music Video: "Balls" is the first single off of King Bee's 3rd album "...to the Moon". The video takes place in the studio where King Bee recorded their current and previous album. It was shot in one 8 hr shoot on the RED digital cinema camera with a crew of 3. It is the first music video directed by Pete Capo. The video was put through the RED workflow with much success despite all the trouble that has been reported with this workflow. Influenced by David Fincher's simple yet effective music video for "A Perfect Circle", the pristine images photographed with the RED camera were distorted and contorted to look like damaged film. I can't say we exactly emulated the great work done by Fincher, but it wasn't a bad try for the little time and money we were able to put into it. Very special thanks to Mario Deas and Camilo of MarMedia.
Budget = under . We spent on a smoke machine and another -40 on food. That's it! We were lucky enough to use our DP's Red Camera for free. Â
